Abstract
Significant research effort, has been invested, in the past years, into systems that can integrate physical and virtual components. This research has been concentrated in the paradigm of Cyber Physical Systems. Ad-hoc processes, found in manufacturing, are difficult to manage but they can have a significant impact on the overall performance and efficiency of the operation. In order to approach the problem of managing these kind of processes the paper will analyze the possibility of using the latest techniques developed in the field of Business Process Management and CPS. This paper proposes a Generic System Architecture in order to develop possible applications of techniques usually found in workflow management systems, to physical processes found in industrial / manufacturing settings.
