A General Approach to the Equalisation of Partial Contact Ratios in 3K Transmissions

Abstract

The equalisation of the approach and recess contact ratios is one of the methods aiming at higher efficiency in any meshing toothed pair. Hori, Kurita and Hayashi implemented this method to the design of a 3K planetary gear with a common planet gear (the Mechanical Paradox) by a purposeful modification of the addenda of each of the 3 meshing toothed pairs. The author verified this method in one of the previous publications and proposes here a more general design approach aiming at better equalisation still at the stage of selecting the numbers of teeth in the transmission. The results confirm the purposefulness of this approach.
