Abstract
Impedance transformer is highly desirable in systems such as microwave communication systems for compensating impedance mismatches. Such device that can perform over broadband frequencies find numerous applications. This article presents the design and investigation of a microstrip Klopfenstein tapered line impedance transformer, KTLI. In ideal condition, it must possess minimum passband reflection coefficient for a given taper length. For specific reflection coefficient, there is a minimum value of taper length. The investigation is based on analytical equations which were computed using MathCAD. The reflection coefficient and return loss responses were found to be in good agreement with theory. Broadband characteristics were observed.
