Abstract
The recent development in automatic gain control (AGC) of Er-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) based on the electrical feedback is reviewed briefly. We introduce a AGC method which uses the adaptive PID arithmetic with feedforward to realize gain clamping by automatically optimizing. The experimental results show that the AGC scheme based on DSP has the advantages of relatively low cost ,high reliability and good flexibility due to the potential of using different arithmetic.
