Study on the Berthing Capability of Pontoon Bases

Abstract

The Xinshengwei base of Nanjing port is located in the water area of the Yangtse River. To meet the development of the port, the owners decide to rebuild and level up the Xinshengwei base to increase the transit quantity of integrated barges. A research on the working conditions after the base is rebuilt and promoted is of great necessity. By analyzing the working conditions the base required, the main effect factors, the working properties of the berthing capability and the anchor-chain system in detail systematically, an integrated numerical method for berthing capability is proposed. Computing impact force when berthing in work-energy theory overcomes the defect of the method based on experience. The upper limit controlled condition is raised through the research. The research results fit the in-situ mooring test well.
