Abstract

The term alienation has been widely discussed in philosophy, economy, sociology, political science, literature, psychology and psychiatry, with the different meanings it has gained over time, and the alienation of man from nature, history, society and himself has been made the subject. This study will not focus on reducing alienation to psychology by ignoring external factors, but on the intrapsychic reflections of alienation of any kind. In other words, instead of the assumption that "every alienation is a result of self-alienation", the broader assumption that "every alienation as a cause or result includes self-alienation" will be accepted. As the focus of this study, the alienation itself will be discussed, not the alienating conditions. In this study, the phenomenon of alienation will be examined through the concepts of "connection", "elements" that make up the connection, "relationship" between these elements and "detachment" in these relations, and the resulting "separation" and "distance". In addition, it is aimed to reach a psychological formulation of "individual alienation".
