Technique for unilateral isolation of the subdural space in the intact primate

Abstract

✓ Transparent polycarbonate domes, to cover craniectomies, now may be thermoformed by using readily available laboratory equipment. Special preparation of the bone and dura mater, in conjunction with the dome, can isolate the space over each cerebral hemisphere of the primate. Simultaneous perfusion of each side with solutions of alternatingly different concentrations indicates a lack of admixing. Brain edema of a single hemisphere may be induced and reduced by manipulating the potassium and chloride ion concentration of the perfusate.
