In this epilogue, the author reflects on complexity in nature, first by sharing his observations on lichens in the slickrock mountain bike trails of the Moab region in southeastern Utah. More specifically, the author talks about the spiral patterns and inward-curling growth fronts in various types of crustose lichens in Moab. He then compares his hike on slickrock with Johannes Kepler's morning walk in Prague, which led to the formulation of the now-famous Kepler's three laws of planetary motion. The author also considers Kepler's hypothesis relating natural order to geometry, along with his views on the unity of nature, before discussing solar flares as well as emergence and natural order. Finally, he suggests a list of materials for further reading.
