BACKGROUND
Background: Role modeling by physicians helps to develop the professional competencies, values and attitudes of medical students, and role modeling is important for students in clinical education settings. This phenomenological study aimed to: Explain the role of hidden curriculum in modeling professional ethics by examining the experiences of medical students of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences.
OBJECTIVE
Explain the role of hidden curriculum in modeling professional ethics by examining the experiences of medical students of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences.
METHODS
Methods: The research was conducted with a qualitative approach and phenomenological method. The statistical population included all medical students of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences in internship. Sampling was done by purposive method and with 12 participants, the information reached theoretical saturation. The data collection method was semi-structured interview. The average duration of each interview was 75 minutes. Data interpretation was performed using Colaizzi's seven-step approach.
RESULTS
Results: In the stage of extracting important propositions, finally 188 codes were extracted. In the formulation stage of meanings of important propositions, 36 important propositions were obtained. After combining and compressing the classes, a total of 6 main themes of these classes include: "Modeling professional ethics directly and indirectly from the training and behavior of professors", "Modeling professional ethics from society and other non-professionals From professors "," Modeling positive or negative professional ethics under the influence of circumstances "," Motivation for students to model professional ethics "," Beliefs and beliefs in having inherent capabilities in modeling professional ethics "," Characteristics of model professors "Professional ethics" was recognized.
CONCLUSIONS
Conclusions: According to the results of this study, the effective role of students 'role modeling of professors in acquiring professional ethics, improving educational situations, teachers' care of their behavior in the clinical environment and creating appropriate modeling situations are suggested
