Abstract

BACKGROUND

With the informatization development and digital construction in the healthcare industry, electronic medical records (EHR) and Internet medicine has facilitated people’s medical treatment. Sharing the patient’s medical data can help doctors to diagnose the patient more accurately and comprehensively. However, in reality, doctors in different hospitals are not able to access the patients’ EHR in other hospitals, resulting in information silos. Furthermore, the current centralized data storage method has the risk of medical data loss and leakage.

OBJECTIVE

This study aims to design a medical blockchain system to realize effective and secure medical data storage and sharing in different offline medical institutions and online medical platforms, and realize online and offline hybrid medical applications to solve the problem of medical information interconnection and resource sharing.

METHODS

This study used combined private blockchain and consortium blockchain to design a medical blockchain double-chain system (MBDS). Proxy re-encryption (PRE) and public encryption with key search (PEKS) technology were used to improve security, effectiveness and privacy of the constructed blockchain system.

RESULTS

This system can store encrypted health and medical information in distributed storage mode and integrate the health and medical information of patients in offline medical institutions and online medical platforms, to achieve equality, credibility, and data sharing among participating nodes. The MBDS system and the proposed online and offline hybrid medical treatment mechanism incorporated online medical care services into the current healthcare system and provided new solutions and practical guidance for the future development of collaborative medical care.

CONCLUSIONS

The MBDS system helped to solve the problems of medical information interconnection and resource sharing, improve the efficiency and effect of disease diagnosis, alleviate the contradiction between doctors and patients, and facilitate personal health management.
