BACKGROUND
Background: Renal insufficiency (RI) is a common kidney disease in the elderly people.
OBJECTIVE
Objectives: Corbrin capsule is an over-the-counter (OTC) drug, improving the renal function of RI patients. This meta-analysis is aimed to assess the clinical efficacy of Corbrin capsule on the treatment of RI.
METHODS
Methods: A meta-analysis was conducted using databases containing PubMed, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang and Weipu Database until August 2020. Randomized controlled trial of Corbrin capsule in the treatment of RI was included. Blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum creatinine (Scr), 24 h urine protein quantification (24 h UPQ) and endogenous creatinine clearance (ECC) were pooled by standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI), whereas the therapeutic efficiency (TE) outcome was pooled by odd ratio (OR) and 95% CI. Heterogeneity was assessed by Q test and I2 statistics using a random-effect model.
RESULTS
Results: Eleven eligible articles involving 1,100 patients (594 in the Corbrin capsule group and 516 in the control group) were chosen. Compared with control subjects, the SMD of was -1.3302 for BUN (95% CI: -2.2428– -0.4176), -1.3532 for Ser (95% CI: -2.0617– -0.6448), -1.7868 for UPQ (95% CI: -2.8901– -0.6836), and 1.7842 for ECC (95% CI: 0.6774–2.8910). The OR of TE was 1.9786 (95% CI: 0.7153–5.4734). No statistical evidence of publication bias was found among studies (t = 0.5627, P = 0.6737).
CONCLUSIONS
Conclusion: The therapeutic effect of Corbrin capsule on RI patients is relatively good.
