Abstract

UNSTRUCTURED

As the use of technology in mental healthcare becomes more prevalent, traditional methods of care in inpatient psychiatric settings are being questioned for their efficacy (Hirschtritt & Insel, 2018). Wearable devices to monitor physiological patterns associated with mood changes have received a significant amount of study over the past decade, and are widely considered a viable, less invasive alternative to current patient care practices (Hickey et al., 2021). As the demand for wearable devices for mental health assessment and intervention continues to rise, the number of brands and models does as well. The ever-growing market of options can make wearable device-based research both more costly and more time consuming (Turukalo et al., 2019). Our aim in this paper is to compile relevant information about major wearable device distributors and to offer a framework that can guide researchers toward choosing the right wearable device for their inpatient psychiatric or intensive mental healthcare setting.
