Abstract

The Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic has presented unparalleled challenges, marked by a wide array of clinical presentations spanning from asymptomatic carriage to severe respiratory compromise and multi-organ dysfunction. It is crucial to comprehend the intricate interplay between host immunity and viral pathogenesis to elucidate disease mechanisms and guide therapeutic strategies. This review delves into the multifaceted interactions between host immunity and viral pathogenesis in COVID-19, with a particular focus on the impact of host factors such as age, sex, comorbidities, and genetic predisposition on disease severity. Utilizing state-of-the-art methodologies, including multiomics approaches, has yielded an expansive molecular portrayal of COVID-19, furnishing innovative perspectives on host immune reactions, viral pathogenicity, and disease advancement. Establishing standardized methodologies for data analysis and interpretation while concurrently addressing ethical considerations and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration are crucial steps in advancing our comprehension of COVID-19 pathogenesis.
