Abstract
Solid-state welding of magnesium alloys is an increasingly important applied task, due to the growing interest in their use in lightweight economical designs. High-quality butt joints were obtained from 2mm thick AZ31 alloy sheets at 1420 rpm constant rotational speed of a cylindrical tool and various linear welding speeds – 8 m/h, 16 m/h, 25 m/h, showing no significant difference in properties. The study of structure, physical and mechanical properties shown local zones with increased hardness and Young’s modulus due to several thermodynamic processes.
