Abstract
Abstract
Fluorescence anisotropy, which has been conventionally used to study the folding states of proteins or molecular binding, is exploited as a liquid temperature diagnostic tool in this study. In the present work, temperature sensitivity of fluorophore; pyrromethene 597; in various organic solvents, namely methanol, ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, butanol, and pentanol, has been studied. These solvents are selected as they all have a difference of one –CH3 group, as one goes from methanol to pentanol. Temperature sensitivity is calculated by measuring the temperature dependence of fluorescence anisotropy. It has been found that pyrromethene 597 shows high temperature sensitivity in ethanol and isopropyl alcohol which is more than ten times larger than the other solution. In both solutions, temperature coefficients are positive, while the others are negative.
