Abstract
The potential of chitosan-oxalic modified kola nut pod modified (COMKNP) to remove selected heavy metals such as lead (Pb), cobalt (Co) and cadmium (Cd) ions from aqueous solution was investigated. The batch adsorption experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of variable parameters such as pH, contact time, temperature, and adsorbent dose on the removal of heavy metals in wastewater. The results showed that these parametric effects have great influence on the removal of heavy metals ions from aqueous solution. The thermodynamics studies showed that the adsorption of these metal ions was spontaneous except for the removal of cadmium. The positive value of enthalpy (ΔH) change obtained showed that the adsorption process was endothermic.
