Abstract

Infectious complications remain major causes of treatment-related morbidity and mortality in children with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) due to the intensive chemotherapeutic regimens needed to treat this disease. Invasive fungal infections (IFI) represent a particularly severe condition that affects 5% - 13% of AML patients with a persistently unacceptable mortality rate of 40%.
