Abstract
Abstract
Electrochemical methods have been used to compare the resistance of several stainless steel.al.loys to corrosion in chloride media. These methods consisted of the determination of critical current densities and pitting potentials, and also the amount of chloride required for passive film breakdown at a fixed passive potential. The results correlated very well with rust staining observed in exposures in a marine atmosphere. Some alloying effects were explored, and the mechanism of pitting and crevice corrosion is also discussed.
