PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF MQTT PROTOCOL IN INTERNET OF THINGS
Author:
Abstract
Internet of Things is fast emerging with its diverse applications spanning broader areas. Many application protocols exist to cater to the increasing data generated by various applications. Constrained application protocol (CoAP), advanced message queuing protocol (AMQP), and message queue telemetry transport (MQTT) are the most widely used protocols. In this paper, a comprehensive performance evaluation of MQTT protocol is presented. The services and security aspects of MQTT are revisited, and performance in terms of throughput, packet loss, and delay are presented. Overall, the paper provides detailed advantages of MQTT to lightweight IoT applications.
