Abstract
This essay aims to reflect on the difficulties in conceiving a history of communication studies that encompasses the Americas. The relevance of the history of communications studies carried out in the regional and local spaces is privileged. Any mapping that embraces the studies of and from Latin America should be conducted in research groups that seek possible connections between processes, chronologies and common phenomena, based on the theoretical approach “connected histories” and considering the regions as the place to start from.
