Abstract
Photothermal effects in nematic liquid crystals (NLCs) on dye-doped polymer film, which caused self-phase modulation, were investigated using Kirchhoff's diffraction integral including higher-order optical phase modulation. The self-phase modulation was also analyzed by numerically solving a heat-conduction equation. The photothermal effects, including dependence on the pump beam intensity, were successfully described with good accuracy by the heat-conduction analysis.
