Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the clinical competence of nursing students and to investigate the influencing of basic nursing skills, problem solving process, and communication skills. For this purpose, 269 nursing students at G, Y, and C universities
were surveyed from September 1, 2016 to October 31, 2016, and the collected data were
analyzed using SPSS 22.0 program. The results showed that basic nursing skills differed among grade, nursing and choice motive, major satisfaction, clinical practice satisfaction, the problem solving process in grade, nursing, choice motive, major satisfaction, communication ability in grade, nursing and choice motive, major satisfaction, clinical practice satisfaction, and between student relationship. In addition, there was a difference in clinical competence in grades, nursing and choice motive, major satisfaction, clinical practice satisfaction, and clinical competence was positively correlated with all three variables. Factors influencing the clinical competence of the subjects were the basic nursing skills, problem solving process, and communication skills, and these three variables accounted for 64.8% of clinical competency.
In order to improve the clinical competency of nursing students, basic nursing skills should be sufficiently trained, problem-solving skills should be developed, and positive relationships should be established through smooth communication with patients, caregivers, and medical staff.
