Abstract
Race and its associated concept, racism, have long been linked to social and health problems. In this article, racism as a social construct is defined, and some of the literature on racism and mental health is reviewed. Examples from the literature and the author’s research on Black women and depression are used to point out Black women’s experiences with racism in the mental health system.
