Abstract
A novel working fuel cell configuration was designed and constructed in order to quantitatively monitor Ru crossover in DMFC on-time under an environment as close as possible to that of an actual fuel cell. The stability of the cell and the validity of in-situ EIS measurements, especially for oxygen reduction reaction in PEMFC, were confirmed by a series of durability tests. The masses of Ru loss at the anode acquired by EDX analysis from the catalyst and by ICP-MS analysis of the supporting electrolyte agreed well with each other. The online determination of Ru crossover was carried out at regular time intervals by ICP-MS during lifetime test.
