Development of SOFC Stacks at Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited

Abstract

Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited (CFCL) has developed a highly efficient and stable solid oxide fuel cell stack for the micro-CHP and electrical generator markets operating on natural gas producing electricity to the grid at 1 - 2 kWe. Stack life of over one year with less than 0.5% per 1000 hours voltage degradation has been achieved. An electrical efficiency (LHV) of 68% is being achieved by the stack for gross DC electricity that enables CFCL's product to export AC electricity to the grid at 60% electrical efficiency. This paper describes CFCL's advances in cells and stacks that have enabled the achievement of these results.
