Abstract
Laser induced white emission (LIWE) occurs when exciting a material with a focused infrared laser and it is characterized by an emission of warm white light and a non-linear intensity increase with excitation power, to cite a few. Therefore, it can be used as a new source for indoor lighting. Herein, we describe the LIWE for Nd0.9Yb0.1AlO3 nanocrystals with both 808 nm and 975 nm focused excitation in vacuum and atmospheric pressure and its light characteristics, with a correlated color temperature (CCT) around 2200 K. Additionally, an intervalence charge transfer (IVCT) mechanism is proposed to explain the origin of such emission.
