Abstract
The reductive leaching of chalcopyrite to chalcocite was achieved by contact with metallic aluminum in acidic solutions at near ambient temperatures. It was shown that increased aluminum surface area, temperature and chloride concentrations lead to larger reduction velocities and aluminum consumption. The controlling mechanism appears to be related to hydrogen generation.
