Oxygen Reduction Reaction on LaNiO3 in Li/Na Eutectic Carbonate Melt with La2O3

Abstract

In order to improve the performance of MCFCs, we have investigated the catalytic activity of LaNiO3 for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in Li/Na eutectic carbonates with La oxide. Both LaNiO3 and NiO electrode was performed at meniscus state to compare the ORR activity. In order to obtain the apparent current density (i0) of LaNiO3 electrode and to analyze the reaction mechanism of ORR, the steady state polarization was performed from 0.1 to 0.9 atm of partial pressure of CO2 at 923 K. As a result, the i0 of LaNiO3 was almost same as that of NiO, and the reaction mechanism of ORR on LaNiO3 might be indicated the possibility of the multiple reaction of the superoxide mechanism and the percarbonate mechanism.
