Abstract
Biochar is an innovative technology for soil amendment. Biochar is an ecofriendly product produced from waste biomass. Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Potassium (NPK) and Carbon content influences plant growth. Biochar is mainly enriched with carbon content and also in nitrogen content. However, by increasing porosity and its surface area it can be used as an alternate for synthetic NPK fertilizer. Major factors influencing the characteristics of biochar are the pyrolytic condition and the soil type. Many studies exist in use of biochar as fertilizer. In this context, various works in literature has been reviewed. From the review, it has been concluded that future works on biochar’s influence on soil chemistry have good scope due to scarce availability of data in literature.
