Abstract
In the present study, amperometric determination of Cu(II), Ag(I) and Au(III) was carried out. We have used thioglycolic acid (TGA) for this purpose at d.m.e. (dropping mercury electrode). We have employed 0.1M NH3 + 0.1M NH4Cl medium for Cu(II) and Au(III) and 0.1M KNO3 for Ag(I). Both cathodic and anodic titrations were carried out successfully for all the metal ions in their respective mediums. Metal species- TGA stoichiometry obtained was 1:2, 2:1 and 1:1 for Cu(II), Ag(I) and Au(III) respectively. By amperometric method, 3.18 ppm (Cu), 5.39 ppm (Ag) and 9.52 ppm (Au) and 6.35 ppm (Cu), 10.79 ppm (Ag) and 19.70 ppm (Au) were estimated in cathodic and anodic titrations respectively with high degree of accuracy. Interference of different foreign ions has also been studied.
