Abstract
Nanostructured Li-ion battery electrodes were created by methods based on template-synthesis. A nanofiber V2O5 cathode, a nanocomposite LiFePO4/carbon cathode, and a porous honeycomb carbon anode were characterized structurally and electrochemically. These electrodes show dramatically improved ability to deliver specific capacity (mAh g^-1) at extreme discharge conditions compared to microstructured control electrodes. The synthesis and characterization of these electrodes is discussed in the context of the goal of a three-dimensional (3-D) nanostructured battery.
