Antifungal Property of Denture Cleansers and Turbinaria conoides against Candida albicans: A Review Article

Abstract

ABSTRACT One of the major problems faced by most of the denture wearers especially geriatric population comes in the form of denture stomatitis, and the common causative organism is found to be Candida albicans. It has the greatest ability to form biofilm on the surface of the dentures. Various mechanical and chemical methodologies have been employed to eradicate this problem. Several studies have evaluated the antifungal properties of commercially available denture cleansers and other novel agents. Turbinaria conoides proves to have promising antifungal properties, and further studies have to be conducted to reach the depth of the individual compound responsible for the antifungal activity.
