Abstract
The genus Potentilla with the species over 400 has wide distribution area causing the variations in morphological characters. Besides its wide distribution area, many situations such as hybridization, introgression, autopolyploidy and allopolyploidy are observed in the genus. All of them can be also reasons for misclassifications and the finally taxonomic problems. DNA barcoding studies have a great importance in solving of taxonomic and phylogenetic problems, in addition to their species identification abilities. However, DNA sequences preferred may not be equally effective in different plant groups in aspect of species identification and separation abilities. For this aim, here psbA-trnH IGS sequences belonging to the Potentilla taxa were examined based on their compatibility and analysed variable sites, parsim-info sites and nucleotide frequencies (%) for the region relevant by using Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis (MEGA 11). Finally, Maximum Parsimony (MP) dendrogram was performed to evaluate the Potentilla taxa as taxonomically and phylogenetically. It can be stated that the taxa belonging to the genus Potentilla were well grouped in the dendrogram and the using of psbA-trnH IGS sequences is strongly recommended for further studies.
