Abstract
The aim of this paper is to analyse resilience in a classic literary piece of work such as La vida de Lazarillo de Tormes, y de sus fortunas y adversidades. In order to do this, the article starts by questioning the adequacy of the term “resilience” in relation to the analysis of characters within literary theory and criticism, especially in connection with a possible psychology of the character. Fortunes and adversities are then contextualised, primarily through the role that folklore plays. Subsequently, a detailed analysis is offered through the character’s resilience. Finally, the article concludes with the importance of the concept of “resilience” to understand this literary work.
