Abstract
Hereditary fructose intolerance is one of numerous entities included in the differential diagnosis of vomiting in infancy. Caused by a deficiency of fructose-1-aldolase, it is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait.1 The symptoms are often subtle and may be confused with more common disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux, milk protein allergy, or improper feeding practices. The following case emphasizes the need to consider the diagnosis of hereditary fructose intolerance in the vomiting infant.
CASE REPORT
A 9-week-old male infant was admitted with vomiting that was unresponsive to outpatient management. The first child of unrelated parents, he was born full term, with a birth weight of 4.1 kg, after an uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery.
