Abstract
This study describes an unusual fatal disease in a child, which was characterized by fever, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly and a leucopenia in which the striking feature was a lymphocytopenia.
Postmortem examination revealed a widespread "idiopathic" atrophy and necrosis of the lymphoid tissue. An associated finding was an extensive monilia infection of the oesophagus.
