Abstract
This chapter examines the power of media and its effects on children and adolescents, both as a reflection and an influencer of society; the importance of representation in both entertainment and news media, on the screen and behind the scenes, especially for children and adolescents of color who have fewer examples of positive media coverage; and how to apply lessons from media literacy with an equity lens to consume, appraise, and advocate for greater diversity and inclusion to improve representation in media to enhance child well-being.
