Abstract
Under the conditions of the study outlined above, 22 patients with bronchiolitis treated with corticosteroids did not show any statistically significant difference from an equal number of patients treated with a placebo. This included hospital course, 2-week or 4-week follow-up, as judged by clinical, radiological, and biochemical means. There was no evidence that the patients on steroids had a less favorable course or outcome. There were no complications or deaths in the entire study. The use of uniform criteriae for diagnosis and follow-up of these patients is discussed. A bronchiolitis scoring system is suggested.
