Abstract
Five premature infants with delayed closure of the ductus arteriosus have been presented. In 3 of these infants, hemodynamic data from serial cardiac catheterization studies document a decrease in left-to-right shunt through the ductus with clinical evidence of spontaneous closure.
The possible roles of inadequate muscular development of the ductus, hypoxemia, the degree of prematurity, and the association of neonatal complications in delayed closure are discussed.
