Abstract

Doxorubicin (DOXR) is an important antitumor drug. However, the clinical use of DOXR has been limited due to serious undesirable side effects in many organs. This study aimed to analyse the effect of Selenium (Se) and N-(p-Amylcinnamoyl) Anthranilic Acid (ACA) on kidney tissue in DOXR, DOXR+Se, DOXR+Se+ACA. At the end of the study, the rat’s intracardiac blood and kidney tissues were removed under anaesthesia. Urea and creatinine levels were examined in serum samples taken from rats. In addition, histopathological examination and 8-OHdG expression in kidney tissue were determined by immunohistochemical analysis. After Se and ACA treatments, DOXR, glomerular atrophy, dilatation in tubular and glomerular, congestion in vessels, and vocalization in tubular epithelial cells were improved to varying degrees in the treatment groups with Se and ACA. In addition, Se and ACA treatments reduced the increasing expression of 8-OHdG caused by DOXR (p< 0.05). These findings indicated that Se and ACA might be used as important therapeutic agents to inhibit renal dysfunction and oxidative DNA damage after DOXR-induced kidney injury.
