Abstract

In this study, it was investigated whether Althaea officinalis, a medicinal plant, has any reducing effect on genotoxicity. We used in vivo assay: Drosophila wing spot test (also known as SMART) which measures somatic mutation and recombination. A mutagen were tested with the A. officinalis: Mitomycin-C (MMC). As a result of the studies, it was determined that a dose of 45mg of A. officinalis could suppress DNA damage caused by MMC. Accordingly, it was observed that A. officinalis was able to suppress the somatic cell mutation induced by MMC. According to the data obtained, it is thought that A. officinalis contains some antigenotoxic factor(s).
