Abstract
Issues likely to impact the future of Career and Technical Education (CTE) research are discussed. The implications inherent in underlying assumptions and current issues that shape CTE practice and scholarship are also identified. Existing and projected changes to work and society provide
clear direction to CTE practice and scholarship for meeting future work preparation needs. However, select challenges facing the CTE research community must be acknowledged. While not a fool's errand projecting future needs is fraught with peril and should be done so with caution and perspective.
Even so, the changing nature of work and society require CTE scholars to be proactive and engage in thoughtful study of how to best prepare individuals for success in work and life.
