Abstract
The ‘Whin Sill’ of the north of England is a classic example of an igneous intrusive sheet. A detailed account of its general tectonic and petrographic features has been the subject of a recent; paper by A. Holmes and H. F. Harwood. The present author has made the attempt not so much to give a complete account of the petrology of the Whin Sill, as to describe certain peculiar developments within its mass, such as the coarse-grained bands, acid segregations, &e.
