Abstract
Lagarobasidiumis a small genus of wood-decaying basidiomycetes in the order Hymenochaetales. Molecular phylogenetic analyses have either supportedLagarobasidiumas a distinct taxon or indicated that it should be subsumed underXylodon, a genus that covers the majority of species formerly placed inHyphodontia. We used sequences from the ITS and nuclear LSU regions to infer the phylogenetic position of the type speciesL.detriticum. Analyses confirmLagarobasidiumas a synonym ofXylodon. Molecular and morphological information show that the traditional concept ofL.detriticumcovers at least two species,Xylodondetriticusfrom Europe andX.pruinosuswith known distribution in Europe and North America. Three species currently placed inLagarobasidiumare transferred toXylodon, viz.X.magnificus,X.pumiliusandX.rickii. Three newXylodonspecies are described and illustrated,X.ussuriensisandX.crystalligerfrom East Asia andX.attenuatusfrom the Pacific Northwest America. The identity ofX.nongravis, described from Sri Lanka, is discussed.
