Abstract

Utilizing a network of 40 reporting stations in Denver and vicinity, the area exposure to hailstorms and their climatology are presented. Frequency of occurrence of hailstones of various sizes are graphed on the basis of over 500 reports covering 162 hail days over a seven year period. Details of individual hailstorms as to speed, area of fall, size distribution and associated synoptic features are presented. Hail forecasting rules specifically applicable to the western zone of the hail belt are summarized.
