Abstract
In a field experiment, competition between maize cv. LG 11 and a naturally established weed population dominated by E. crus-galli was studied. At the av. E. crus-galli density of 100 plants/msuperscript 2, the yield of maize was reduced to only 18% of that of the weed-free control. This yield reduction strongly varied with years and the observed variation was probably related to differences between crop and weed in date of emergence. Experimental results were compared with the results of a simulation model for competition for light and water in crop-weed associations. (Abstract retrieved from CAB Abstracts by CABI’s permission)
