Abstract
Children and young people (CYP) bereaved by suicide are part of a vulnerable group who can feel marginalised, are at risk of complicated grief and indeed suicide itself. This research aims to increase awareness by exploring the experiences of CYP people who have lost a parent to suicide. It is hoped that the findings may help contribute to the development of postvention training. Three participants were enrolled with the support of a well-known UK charity. A narrative approach to hear/give power to the voice was employed and thematic analysis was then used. Themes were then used to generate the web of complexities which highlights the self in the middle and illustrates how complexities of suicide isolate the bereaved individual from the outside world with a feeling of being trapped. This can risk exacerbating the effects of the bereavement and reduce prospects of recovery. There is a need for professionals, specifically education professionals to have an awareness of the complexities associated with suicide bereavement and it is hoped that the web will help with this so that individual support can be targeted.
