Abstract

HIV disease is, by comparison with other medical conditions, a new phenomenon which was first described in the medical literature in 1981 (CDC, 1981). The psychosocial effect of the disease on individuals and their families has been the subject of recent research, and a range of counselling activities and approaches have been described in the literature (Bond, 1991; Miller and Bor, 1988).
