Abstract
In the current competitive economic climate in the UK, organizations are increasingly looking for ways to ensure that their workers are high performing, empowered and effective in achieving business objectives, (Tehrani, 1994). Although the enhancement of manager’s skills and improved business processes have an important role to play in increasing business effectiveness (Seddon and Jackson, 1991) additional organizational support should be provided by the organization for employees suffering from physical, psychological or social problems (BIFU, 1990). In order to protect the employee and the supporter, this support needs to be provided by trained and competent caring professionals (Welch and Tehrani, 1992).
