Snakes and Solutions: An example of using a traditional board game to exemplify the techniques of Solution-focused therapy

Abstract

For some therapists playing games may seem a daunting and alien approach to the therapeutic process. However, research has identified the relevance of such age appropriate techniques for children, which may help them to create a safe place to work through problematic issues. Outcome studies also support the use of solution-focused therapy for behavioural problems through middle childhood and adolescent years. This case study highlights the use of a semi-structured game to support therapeutic intervention for a nine-year-old boy utilising a solution-focused perspective.
